AMERICAN BEEF CHEESE BURGER CASSEROLE
A great American Beef burger recipe to try !
One of the initial dishes I learned to prepare was Hamburger Helper, and I cherish the memories of adhering to the instructions printed on the packaging. Cheeseburger casserole serves as the homemade alternative to the convenient meal of my childhood, and it is equally simple: Sauté ground beef with onions, then simmer it with macaroni, beef broth, and pantry spices for a robust one-pot dish prepared entirely on the stovetop. The final touch is a generous amount of cheddar cheese, an essential component of any good cheeseburger.
The Ingredients Required for Cheeseburger Casserole
Ground beef: Opt for lean ground beef to minimize excess grease that needs to be drained.
Onion: Chopped onion cooks down and imparts a distinctive burger-like flavor to the casserole.
Macaroni: Dried macaroni is the traditional pasta used in this casserole due to its quick cooking time.
Cheddar cheese: Sharp cheddar cheese provides a delightful flavor that melts beautifully into the sauce.
Beef broth: You will require one carton of beef broth.
Diced tomatoes: Diced tomatoes contribute liquid and acidity. You may use either regular or petite canned diced tomatoes, ensuring not to drain any of the liquid.
Tomato paste: As tomato paste simmers, it enhances the dish with a rich depth of flavor. If possible, use the thicker variety from a tube, although canned tomato paste is also acceptable.
Worcestershire sauce: The savoriness that Worcestershire sauce adds to ground beef is unparalleled.
Granulated garlic: Dried garlic aids in replicating the flavors reminiscent of Hamburger Helper.
What is the Optimal Pasta for Cheeseburger Casserole?
Macaroni is the classic selection for cheeseburger casserole; however, any small, short pasta such as small shells or rotelle can be utilized. It is important to note that various types of pasta may require a longer cooking time or possibly an additional splash of broth to ensure they are fully cooked.
Instructions for Preparing Cheeseburger Casserole
Begin by browning the onion and ground beef. Sauté diced onion along with lean ground beef until the beef is thoroughly cooked and the onion becomes tender.
Incorporate the Worcestershire sauce and tomato paste. Continue cooking with the Worcestershire sauce and tomato paste until the mixture is slightly reduced and has darkened in color.
Introduce the broth and tomatoes. Pour in a carton of beef broth and a can of diced tomatoes, then bring the mixture to a boil.
Cook the pasta. Add dried macaroni and cook until it reaches a tender consistency.
Complete with cheese. Mix in some cheddar cheese until it melts, then add more cheese on top. To achieve a melted cheese topping, you may cover it with a lid and allow it to rest for a few minutes, or alternatively, transfer the entire pot to the broiler for a more browned finish.
What Accompaniments Pair Well with Cheeseburger Casserole?
Steamed broccoli or a green salad dressed with a light vinaigrette complement the rich flavors of cheeseburger casserole effectively.
